A picture a day will make good friends feel less far away.

Even though the bar was really red inside, I still look redder!

Yay for reunioning…thanks Katie and Nate!

Fermentation Exploration

In Abbie on January 17, 2011 at 8:25 pm

Me and some friends spent Saturday engaged with various fermentation projects, many of which can be viewed here. From left to right: Preserved Lemons, Sour Beets, Kimchi Galore, Sauerkraut. Not pictured: Kombucha, sourdough (which didn’t rise so we made it into crackers, also not pictured)

John and I made Peach Pizza with the free peaches that I got at the market on Sunday. Yum!

BEETS of Glory!

Here are our first beets of the season (we have harvested more since, but this was a pretty awesome bounty).

We ate some raw and they were delicious!

Gale Forces at Work in the Neighborhood

It was really windy last week; windy enough to take down this hunk-a-tree. I was so mesmerized by the power of nature that I didn’t realize that I was walking in the middle of the street, in front of a car…the car ended up parking right next to the tree and its driver got out looking distraught…I don’t think it was his tree but I think it did land in front of his house. CRAZY. Will be great for mulch though…

16 Months: The New Driving Age

So if this isn’t the CUTEST little guy in the world, I just don’t know… How I managed to allow him into the driver’s seat is currently unknown.

8 people, 1 million glasses

We must have been really thirsty?

continuing to spice up our lives…

I went by Vientiane yesterday and the neon open sign was shining brightly in the foreground (if you squint, you can definitely see it) plus the building was churning out the fantastic smells that we so fondly associate with all our spiciest memories from there (if you sniff, you can definitely smell it). Whether or not they have any customers is anyone’s guess…but the owner of the car parked out front was very probably inside negotiating the line between mild and medium, 2 stars or 3 and, of course, spicy or no spicy. It think I know where we are eating Memorial Day…

That Lake is ALIVE!

My face kind of matches the rumbling of the waves behind me. It was rough water out there. Definitely rain falling in the distance. It’s amazing how your pictures change when you are out on a dock. Not to mention the fact that my dress is practically the same color as the water. Heck, I may be something right out of the water. Now that’s something for you to ponder.

Pie in a Jar

In Abbie on April 3, 2010 at 6:15 am

We decided to give Madison’s new Daisy Cafe and Cupcakery a try. Located in the old Bunky’s spot, this breakfast joint was filled with sunshine and we felt satisfied by the eats. Though we weren’t feeling the cupcakes, these mini pies caught our eye. The woman who was nice enough to take off the cover so I could take a picture was so excited about them that we couldn’t wait to find shallow mason jars to send you one for your birthday. Be ready.
